Protecting your builds and items is a vital part of your time on the Boltkill SMP. By claiming land, you ensure that your hard work is safe from griefers and that your loot stays secure from thieves.
Getting Started: Claim Blocks
When you first join the server, you are granted claim blocks. This is the total surface area you can protect. The more you play, the more blocks you earn. As you spend time on the server, your ability to expand your claims and protect larger areas grows automatically.
Create Your First Claim
To start protecting your land, you will need a Golden Shovel. If you don't have one, you can usually ask an administrator for assistance, or simply craft one using a Gold Ingot and two Sticks.
Select the First Corner: Hold the Golden Shovel and right-click the block at one corner of the area you wish to protect.

Select the Opposite Corner: Walk to the diagonal corner of your desired area and right-click the ground again.

Confirm the Claim: Once both corners are selected, visual markers (usually gold and glow-stone blocks) will appear to show the perimeter of your protected zone.
Managing and Expanding Your Area
If you realize you need more space later on, you don't need to delete your claim and start over. You can easily resize it:
View your claim: Hold your Golden Shovel to make the boundary markers reappear.

Resize: Right-click an existing corner marker with the shovel, then right-click a new location further out to stretch the boundary.

Pro Tip: Claiming doesn't just stop people from breaking blocks; it also locks your chests, furnaces, and doors to everyone except those you explicitly trust.
Happy building,
Boltkill
